New exhibitors announced for The Wine & Spirits Show

delle Venezie DOC

Company background: The new delle Venezie DOC was created in 2017 as a result of the history and the culture of generations who have built day by day the great “Triveneto vineyard”. It came from the need for producers and consumers to manage, protect and promote the complex and versatile production of Pinot Grigio, one of the most representative grape of the area and the most exported nationally. The Pinot Grigio production system is today based on a young, modern, environmentally friendly vinegrowing system that looks towards quality productions, recognised and able to ensure that these wines really represent those expressed values to the final consumer. Since its first harvest in 2017, the entire Pinot Grigio production from the administrative territories of Trentino, Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia is today certificated as DOC.

Proudest achievement: In the first half of 2018, delle Venezie DOC has been exceeded one million hl of certified wine (1,003,615 hl), 73% of the harvested 2017 production, more than 130 million bottles of Pinot Grigio, DOC claimed and required by foreign markets, confirming a trend able to expect the zero stock before the end of the current campaign (December 2018). And, this positive trend has been accompanied by the definitive ceasing of the bottling of the old IGT starting from August 1st 2018, an historical and important event that closes a phase regarding the entire Italian Northeastern Pinot Grigio which will therefore leave the cellars only guaranteed as DOC. Plus, consumers all over the world have welcomed the new Pinot Grigio delle Venezie DOC with a great interest. International press and professional opinion leaders have recognised the excellence of the Italian style of delle Venezie DOC wines, winners of important awards in the main world’s competitions dedicated to global Pinot Grigio productions. 2017 first vintage is now almost bottled and delivered to consumers, and trade operators are anxiously waiting for the incoming 2018 vintage, which promises to be a great quality one.

Fun fact: Delle Venezie DOC appellation, representing more than 24,000 hectares of Pinot Grigio, is the first supra-regional experiment ever in Italy able to systematise two regions (Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Veneto) and one autonomous province. A great challenge that, since its very harvest in 2017, has already brought results and achievements.

Future goals: The delle Venezie DOC Consortium is now working in the direction of receiving the official recognition from the Italian Ministry of Agriculture that will help to coordinate system policies for the total governance of the appellation, on promotion, international, collective mark and identity protection.
