Guilty pleasures: Jan Konetzki

Jan Konetzki was born in Germany, and rose to prominence in the London restaurant scene at fine dining icon, Gordon Ramsay Royal Hospital Road. During this time, his wine selection was frequently recognised as one of the best in London, and also initiated a radical redesign of the wine list together with the Ballmannweber agency. He was plucked from this high-profile post to take up the position of Director of Wine at Four Seasons Hotel London at Ten Trinity Square, including Anne-Sophie Pic’s Michelin-starred La Dame De Pic, and the Ten Trinity Square Private Club, as well as Château Latour and Artemis Domains Ambassador. He now manages all wine affairs of this extraordinary new venue, and is now building one of the finest wine lists in the UK.

1: What is your definition of a guilty pleasure?
Treating yourself with something that you know will give you a buzz every time you go back to it. Like a glass of Saint Peray 😉

2: What is your guilty pleasure from the Côte du Rhône and why?
I have a big love for anything Syrah. It is full of character and stretches from savoury meaty to rocky minerality, fruity and sometimes floral notes. Dramatic and stimulating!

3: How about your guilty pleasure cocktail / drink outside of wine?
Negroni and coffee.

4: What’s your guilty pleasure when you’re not working?
I travel a lot and I love it but I am like home cooking hence a massive brunch meal with seafood, fizz, coffee and my partner. Nothing better!

5: And finally, what’s your guilty pleasure food?
Oysters and crustaceans.?

Dame de Pic is part if the Guilty Pleasures festival organised by Côtes du Rhône wines Côtes du Rhône wines is running the Guilty Pleasures festival all October. For more information click here
