Organic, biodynamic, minimal intervention, natural, amphorae, qvevris, rare indigenous grape vareties, strange blends, wine made from wild grapes, orange wines, volcanic wines – it’s all there. And we love it. Wine buyer Heidi Nam Knudsen is evidently good friends with natural, organic and biodynamic specialist importers Les Caves de Pyrene and Tutto, selecting the cream of their respective European portfolios to grace the Nopi list.
It’s a compact offering where the ‘classics’ – even these are quite novel: biodynamic Bordeaux (Chateau Le Puy Emilien 2011, £65); natural Morgon Bojo from Jean Foillard
(£46); 15-year-old Trebbiano d’Abruzzo from Valentini (£140) – are pushed to the periphery and orange wines come to the fore.
The list features some really excellent bottles that are hard to find anywhere else in such concentration. There’s even a section of the list devoted to volcanic wines.
