One of the quirkiest wine lists in town, with plenty of interest from the massively under-appreciated Greece, along with smatterings of Romania, Bulgaria and Moldova.
Hatzidakis Assyrtiko from the volcanic Greek island of Santorini is about as ‘mainstream’ as it gets. You can also sample another Santorini speciality, Nikteri (again from Hatzidakis winery) – a powerful white wine rarely seen in the UK made from extra-ripe grapes.
Domaine Lyrarakis from Crete is an indication of the kind of rarely seen wines to be enjoyed here, or perhaps Château Purcari from Moldova.
Retsina fans should definitely give the one from Gaia’s Nemea estate a go too. It’s one of the best you’ll try.
The chilled red section is also well worth a plunder.
No doubt, most diners will need friendly guidance from the staff on what they should be drinking, as most of these wines will be unfamiliar to even the most fervent London restaurant-goer.
An adventure for the palate and quite an education for wine lovers.
