Spanning just two pages – although the typeface is tight – the list features 50 wines by the glass, including Krug Grande Cuvée, Waterford Estate Chardonnay, and Ridge Lytton Springs.
You can always feel safe that a Caprice Holdings list will do an admirable job, at whichever of its venues you may end up drinking in. Scott’s is no exception, and while there may not be masses in the way of value, dining and drinking in this hallowed Mayfair dining room, among its celebrity clientele, more than makes up for it. Spanning just two pages – although the typeface is tight – the list features 50 wines by the glass, including Krug Grande Cuvée, Waterford Estate Chardonnay and Ridge Lytton Springs. The list proper is arranged by price and region, although it is not always clear why Burgundy, for example, should be included alongside Jura, or what Alsace has to do with Cahors… For a fish restaurant, there is a perhaps surprising breadth of red wines, including illustrious Pomerol, Le Pin and Petrus, and pin-up Burgundy, such as La Tache Grand Cru (Romanee–Conti). For relative value (note, there are just three bottles below £30), head to the Languedoc-Roussillon and the Loire. Head chef David McCarthy’s food is certainly wine-friendly, from the sharing platter of fruits de mer, which must be one of London’s best, to beautiful octopus carpaccio and a more hearty, perfumed monkfish and tiger prawn masala.
