A generally gutsy wine list to mop up all that rich fry and bbq sees a decent vintage Prosecco offered alongside large bottles of beer for sharing, as well as late harvest Pfalz Gewurtzatraminer and an Austrian Chardonnay-Sauvignon. Reds are eager drinkers, from a young Valencian tinto to Patrick Sullivan’s ‘Bonkers’ Australian,  a naturally-inclined Pollock of a wine corralling no fewer than seven varieties (red and white) over three vintages.

Review 2018

Inspired by the late night canteens of Bangkok thronged by Farangs, Smoking Goat offers Thai drinking and comfort food in a former strip club at the bigger, Shoreditch High Street sequel to Soho’s Smoking Goat, lease of which is to be short lived.

Expect a menu broken down into ‘Drinking Foods’, therefore, including toothsome chicken heart skewer, Cornish cockles naam jim, or larger plates featuring rarebreed meats and day boat seafood, such as the smoked brisket drunken noodles, signature barbecue goat turmeric massaman – with an optional side of lardo fried rice – and d’tom yam, wild mussels and velvet crab.

‘Odd Liquors’ meanwhile features Mezcal, yuzu sake, Plum Wine Hiroshima and the infamous ‘tray of joy’, being, in lieu of any formally offered dessert, a collection of the spiritual curios which founders, Ben Chapman (who also opened Kiln under the banner of Super 8 Restaurants) and his team, Brian Hannon and head chef Ali Borer have amassed.
