Resy to cease UK operations

Booking platform Resy, which is used by more than 300 restaurants in the UK, has announced that it will be suspending its operations on this side of the Atlantic to focus on North America.

Resy, which is estimated to be used by 16,000 businesses globally, was launched in 2014 and three years later it was introduced to the UK.

American Express acquired Resy in 2019. A spokesperson for the bank said: “Resy has been proud to work with many of the best restaurants in the UK and to be a trusted resource for diners. However, after much consideration, Resy will close its business in the UK and focus on its US and Canadian operations. The Resy team will work closely with all restaurant partners to assist with the offboarding process and ensure that existing reservations are managed seamlessly.”

“The company remains committed to supporting the UK culinary scene and to expanding the thriving network of restaurants who welcome our Cardmembers,” the spokesperson added.

While the statement did not reveal a timeline for the closure of UK operations, a letter sent to businesses by Resy explained that it will cease to be available for UK restaurants by 31 August 2024.

Resy offers a range of plans for restaurants, with the monthly fee ranging from £133 (excluding VAT) for a ‘Basic’ service that offers a system for reservations, wait lists, table management etc., up to the ‘Enterprise’ model at £899 a month (again, excluding VAT) that is designed to be used for groups with 10 or more locations.

The letter sent to UK businesses revealed that they will be able to use their Resy plan “at no cost” until the end of August, and that Resy would assist in “retrieving [their] guestbook data” to ensure a smooth transition.
