Private members’ wine club 67 Pall Mall has announced the launch of its Global Wine Communicator Awards, with categories covering everything from short videos to long-form writing.
The categories, which are all free to enter, are as follows:
• The Gusbourne Estate Award for Best Wine Communicator in Long-Form Writing (1,000 words or more)
• The 67 Pall Mall Award for Best Wine Communicator in Short-Form Writing (1,000 words or fewer)
• The 67 Pall Mall Award for Best Wine Communicator in Long Video (three minutes or more)
• The 67 Pall Mall Award for Best Wine Communicator in Short Video (under three minutes)
• The 67 Pall Mall Award for Best Wine Communicator in Audio
• The Berkmann Award for Outstanding Communicator for entrants that submit
content across all three disciplines (writing, video, audio)
All written and audio entries must be in the English language – video entries can be in another language, but must have English subtitles.
Judging the entries will be a panel consisting of influencers, journalists and MWs: Elaine Chukan Brown (writer), Isis Daniel (@themillenialsomm), Natalie Wang (Vino Joy News), Max Allen (writer and lecturer), Olly Smith (presenter) and Konstantin Baum MW (content creator and consultant). db interviewed Baum about his journey to YouTube stardom last year.
Richard Hemming MW, who is both head of wine, Asia for 67 Pall Mall and founder of the awards, said: “As someone who started writing about wine in 2008, I know how beneficial these competitions can be. Wine communicators are producing superb content across all media, and the Awards will recognise that brilliance.”
“With an international outlook, we encourage everyone who communicates about wine,” Hemming continued. “Whether it’s through podcasts, social media or print media – to enter the Awards. Our judges include some of the world’s most decorated wine communicators, and they are super keen to find the best talent out there. If you’re talking, writing or even singing about wine, we want to hear from you.”
Entry is now open and closes on 10 March. Finalists will be announced on 6 July and a gala ceremony will take place in London on 6 September. Those wishing to enter should visit the awards website.
For young drinks writers, there is also the Alan Lodge Young International Drinks Writer of the Year (entry for which has now closed), run by the drinks business‘ sister publication The Spirits Business. To find out more about it ahead of the next edition of the competition, click here.
