Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has shared his final plans for a major luxury development in Manchester that has been “15 years in the making”, including a rooftop restaurant and a “traditional” pub.

While most will be familiar with Neville as a player-turned-pundit, his entrepreneurial activities are gaining increasing publicity, both due to his co-ownership of Salford City FC and him recently landing a spot among the Dragons on BBC series Dragons’ Den.

The development, called ‘St. Michael’s Manchester’, is a collaboration between Neville’s Relentless Group and a number of stakeholders, including Salford-based property developer Salboy and global investment firm KKR.

On LinkedIn, Neville shared: “It’s an extraordinary scheme that we believe will be the first fully Net Zero Carbon commercial development in Manchester, something we’re very proud of. Phase one of the scheme will have nine floors of office space, Chotto Matte on the rooftop restaurant and two F+B [food and beverage] outlets. Later this summer we’ll begin Phase two with construction of a 41-storey tower which will host a 162-bed Five Star international hotel brand and 217 luxury residences.”

Chotto Matte is a Japanese-Peruvian fusion restaurant, otherwise known as ‘Nikkei’, and cocktail bar that currently has five locations in the UK, US, Canada and the Middle East.

The St. Michael’s website states that in addition to the rooftop restaurant from Chotto Matte, visitors can enjoy “an afternoon cocktail in our vibrant public square, or a perfect pint in Manchester’s most welcoming traditional pub”.

The pub will be called ‘The Sir Ralph Abercromby’ (or ‘The Abercromby’ for short), and is currently seeking an operator. The brochure for the site mentions that it will serve an “ever evolving range of craft beers”, and that the food offering is currently a “secret”, but that there will be “stove top butties” (a grilled cheese). Details concerning the other food & beverage outlet have not yet been revealed.
