Chef Tom Kerridge has announced that he will be opening a second Butcher’s Tap & Grill later this year.
Kerridge, who is known for his two-Michelin-starred gastropub The Hand & Flowers in Marlow, opened the first Butcher’s Tap & Grill, also in Marlow, in partnership with Greene King five years ago. This will be Kerridge’s third London site, after Kerridge’s Bar & Grill at the Corinthia Hotel, and Kerridge’s Fish & Chips in Harrod’s.
Now, Kerridge has revealed that this more casual dining option will be coming to Chelsea, in an historic building that once housed the Queen’s Head pub.
Kerridge said: “We are delighted to have secured such a prestigious location for our second Butcher’s Tap & Grill. The pub will be a spin off from the original, in that it is not a carbon copy of the Marlow pub, more emphasis will be placed on drinks and the bar in Chelsea and we will not offer a takeaway butcher’s service, but guests will be able to choose their cuts from the meat fridge.”
In terms of the drinks, Gavin Hills, wine director at The Hand & Flowers, has curated the wine list. As for what is on tap at Butcher’s Tap & Grill, beer from Marlow-based Rebellion Beer Co., which Kerridge has a historic relationship with, and from a number of London craft breweries will be available.
Concerning the ‘Grill’ part, the food menu will be meat-led, with takeaway options for burgers and hot dogs (made with high quality British meat), and on Sundays it will offer a classic roast. The open plan kitchen will also have dry-ageing fridges.
“We very much want to be a local’s local,” Kerridge explained. “Somewhere to pop in, have a pint, watch some sport have a bite and relax. We will also be dog friendly so well behaved four legged friends are very welcome too.”
It is due to open in late 2023.
Kerridge isn’t the only celebrity chef to try their hand at pubs – James Martin is also bringing his twist to the classic British boozer.
